Bil'in - Palestine.
30-12-2011.
A 19 years old, Muhammad al-Khatib, was shot with a rubber bullet in the neck, in addition to dozens of cases of asphyxiation from poison gas in the weekly march which was organized by the Popular Committee Against the Wall and Settlements in Bil'in. This march comes on the anniversary of the Palestinian revolution, Christmas, the first anniversary of the martyrdom of Jawaher Abu Rahma, and the third anniversary of the war on Gaza. It included the participation of dozens of Palestinians , international and Israeli peace activists.
The march began after Friday prayers from the center of the village heading to the land which was liberated six months ago. The participants raised Palestinian flags, banners of Fatah, and banners painted with the image of the captive leader Marwan Barghouti. One of the participants dressed as Santa Claus and he carried the bell in the message of peace to the free world that Palestinian people want to live in peace without occupation on their land and in their holy places. The participants chanted the national slogans which call for the departure of the occupation, and the destruction of the apartheid wall. They also called on Palestinians to remain faithful to the constants of Palestine and called for freedom for all Palestinian prisoners.
Upon the arrival of participants to the Abu Lemon are they were able to break through the barbed wire. One of them climbed the wall and raised the Palestinian flag on the concrete wall while a group of settlers were standing and watching. Then the soldiers, who were situated behind the concrete wall, shot rubber bullets, stun grenades, and dense tear gas toward the participants. This caused the injury of a young man, Muhammad al-Khatib, and dozens of protesters suffered from cases of suffocation. All of them were treated in the field by ambulance crews. On the other side a force of soldiers chased the participants in the fields adjacent to the wall. During this chase the young people threw stones at the soldiers and prevented them from progressing toward the village.
