They started chanting nationalists slogans in favor of the right of return and calling for an end to the occupation, and they chanted slogans calling for a response to the brutal policy of occupation against the displaced Palestinian people and the demolition of homes and building of settlements.
When the demonstrators reached the eastern separation fence, Israeli soldiers fired rubber bullets and barrage of teargas. They also sprayed 'skunk' water, which is water treated with chemicals that gives it a foul smell which cannot be removed from clothing. Dozens of demonstrators were affected by teargas asphyxiation and were treated by an ambulance crew.
The soldiers fired teargas into the olive groves with the intent of setting fire to them. Many olive trees were burned as a result of this. Participants were able to access areas of the fence and succeeded in tearing down a portion of it.
